THE TABLE WITH THE DOGS - KATHAKALI
FRANCE/INDIA | 2010

Synopsis:
Julien is the first student from the Western World to have been accepted in PSV Natyasangham, a school devoted to Kathakali. For us, he opens the doors of this school and gives access to a community of men who dedicate their whole life to this Art.
The table with the dogs – Kathakali is a remarkable documentary that allows us to be the witness of one of the last places where this form of theatre is taught in its purest tradition.
Instead of solely didactic description of what Kathakali is, the film is leading the viewers on a sensorial and atypical journey, that can also be perceived as a hypnotic experience at times.

1180 & MORE
ITALY/AUSTRIA | 2016

Synopsis:
1180 AND MORE is a work of dance video, second chapter of an artistic research started with the solo LOTIMEOP in January 2016. It mainly investigates the connection between dance and visual art, in which their properties get inverted through their use in time. Drawing and dance meet to generate a dialogue between staticity, represented by singular images, and movement, created by their succession. While LOTIMEOP has explored the vision and the analysis of a kinetics which better crystallizes through repetitions, in this animation has been researched the opposite process , in which succession of images, apparently different from each other, create the movement itself.

WAY OUT
ITALY/UK | 2014

Synopsis:
What happens when we suspend all our actions to question them? What do we think about before performing a new gesture or encountering someone else? By making visible the immaterial layer of thoughts, the video aims at revealing the inner dimension of the dancer and at investigating the relationship between stream of consciousness and flow of movement.
Overcoming the paralysis of doubt, we can enter the state of flow, where there is no need for interruptions to reflect, because we are so involved in our actions that they follow each other in a natural way.

INHERITOR RECORDINGS
CANADA | 2015

Synopsis:
A collaboration between filmmaker Brian Johnson and Canadian dance company 605 Collective. Filmed at the historic BC Sugar Refinery (Rogers Sugar) in Vancouver, BC, and featuring 16 dancers, Inheritor Recordings warps time and place to augment and expand 605’s raw and highly physical choreography. In this short, the dance becomes an upheaval of an off-limits, dormant space and its history. Inheritor Recordings is quiet uprising of a new generation, their movement infused with tiny rebellions and a hunger to take over, urgent to claim something as their own.

ThisMoonSeemsSoSunny
MALTA | 2016

Synopsis:
My main inspiration was a letter written by Frida Kahlo for Diego Rivera named Mi Noche where she describes an infinity of desires and wounds of her night. This made me want to dig on the notion of infinity of time and more specifically on the perspicacity and lucidity that we can experience from time to time in our lives. I tried to to work first on a certain clarity and dignity, which evolve towards an harmonious chaos of overflowing thoughts and movements. The title is what we call in french an « alliteration », it’s a literature figure of style that consists in repeating a same consonant here the S, which suggest the notion of friction. I wanted to translate a certain sens of obsessionally through rhythmic repetition.

DANZAS SELENITAS (Selenitic Dances)
SPAIN | 2016

Synopsis:
A surrealistic dance made for the Selenits, the inhabitants of the Moon.
The selenitic dances (Danzas Selenitas) are based on the concept of subtractive synthesis, both on the music and the image. The music has been created by the composer-videomaker, using tools created ad hoc for subtractive synthesis where sounds change in timbre and energy. The image has also been processed by multilayer difference and subtraction in order to create more abstract lines from the dancers movement, but still maintaining the sense of movement and the pas-de-deux between the camera and the dancer.
